About this Series

This Sunday we begin a series called “Promoting the Gospel.” The gospel about Jesus that we wish to promote is “good news” for everyone and for our country but the spiritual climate of Australia is mixed to say the least. Our reaction may be to withdraw from the public sphere and limit mission to personal interactions. I have no problem with personal evangelism – each person matters. But we must also have an eye on the wider issues that are affecting the spiritual dynamics of our country and state. Please do use whatever avenues you have to ensure a Christian perspective is communicated intelligently and graciously.

Being the Light of the World.

Promoting the gospel through the good works of the church. Today we are reminded that the collective good works of the people of God bring glory to God and demonstrate the grace and sacrificial love of the gospel. This is the teaching of all of Scripture beginning with Creation and God's promises to Abraham. Today we read in Isaiah 49 that it is God's intention that his servant people be a light to the nations. In a culture that values personal autonomy above all we need to heed Jesus' command in Matthew 5 that together we are the light of the world. God’s people together shine out the one light of the gospel to a dark world.
